Chamber prepares for auction

June 22, 2009 - By JO ANN BOBBY-GILBERT (jgilbert@reviewonline.com)

WELLSVILLE - Hoping to raise funds to renovate the village gazebo, the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce will host a public auction at 6 p.m. July 11 at the Alumni Center.

A variety of items already has been donated for the auction, including gift certificates from restaurants, car washes, convenient stores, and other merchants.

Autographed sports memorabilia, gift baskets, a one-year Chamber membership, pool passes, collectibles, car repair services, a new set of drums, and other items will be up for sale.

Chamber President Randy Allmon said this week he hopes others will come forward and donate items for the auction, challenging specifically alumni of Wellsville High School.

"We want the gazebo to look nice for next year's (All-School) reunion. And I'd like this to spur other projects in town. We want to spruce up the town as much as possible with Baard Energy coming," Allmon said.

New or gently used donations are welcome, especially big-ticket items such as appliances, and Chamber members will pick up donations.

"We need community support," Chamber President-elect Diana Spencer agreed.

The Chamber is offering "auction bucks" at seven for $5 that can be used toward auction purchases. They are available at CF Bank, Huntington Bank and Air Waves of Ohio.

Auctioneer for the event will be Russ Koontz, whose services are being donated by Sell Auction.

The Wellsville Lions will be selling refreshments at the event.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase materials for the gazebo renovation, with several local unions donating the labor for the project.
