EAST LIVERPOOL - Kathryn Shook Owen, 95, died peacefully at her home in East Liverpool on Sunday, June 14, 2009.
Born in East Liverpool on March 12, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Friend Washington Shook and Margaret Kane Shook.
Owen was a longtime member of the Glenmoor United Presbyterian Church before joining the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of East Liverpool.
This wonderful woman had the gift of writing encouraging letters to her very large family and many friends. She loved Big Band and Gospel music, and also beautiful hats. She enjoyed sharing her kitchen skills by giving away her candy, meatballs, coleslaw, and the best pies on earth.
Surviving her is one son, James Casto, of Bradenton, FL and East Liverpool, as well as two daughters, Elva Jean Dunlevy of Frederick, MD, and Georgianne Danielson of Federalsburg, MD. Two sons, Donald and Wilbert, preceded her in death.
Also surviving are three stepdaughters, Del Junkerman of East Liverpool, Genevieve Chestnut of Huntsville, AL, and Adrienne Johnson of Rochester, NY, as well as her faithful visitor, Tracy Hyatt, of East Liverpool.
Owen had a great love for children, especially her twenty-one grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also had a passion for special needs children, and often shared her resources for the betterment of their lives.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Edith Wolf, Ruth Green, Margaret Shook, Wilbert Shook and James Shook, as well as her husbands, Cecil Casto, Sam Guarnieri and Paul Owen.
We celebrate today a life well lived, as she breathes celestial air - home at last.
Visitors will be welcomed at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Schneidmiller of Grace Bible Church and Pastor Mark Dunn of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be held at Columbiana County Memorial Park, followed by a time of continued fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Mikel Foundation, P.O.
