Nicholas Cosgrove
CHESTER - Nicholas Scott Cosgrove, son of Scott and Dawn Allison Cosgrove, graduated from Pontiac Township High School in Pontiac, Ill., with a 3.9451 GPA and is Senior Class President. His grandparents are Pat and Ed Clunk, the late William N. Allison, David and Barbara Ash of Chester, and James Cosgrove of Newell.
Cosgrove followed in his father's footsteps and became and Eagle Scout in October 2008. The Eagle Court of Honor was held May 23, 2009.
He will study physics at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
Brandy Anderson
WELLSVILLE - Brandy Jo Anderson of Wellsville has made the President's List with a 4.0 GPA for Spring Semester 2009. Anderson attends Mountain State University satellite campus in Center Township, Monaca, Pa. She will graduate in September with a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership Development.
Jacob Hitt
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Jacob MacLean Hitt has recently returned from Charleston, S.C., where he participated with dozens of Mount Union students who chose to spend their time during Mount Union College's Spring Break volunteering to do community service projects at the R.D. Schroder Middle School.
Mount Union education majors, accompanied by Dr. Pete Schneller, Associate Professor of Education, traveled to Charleston, where they helped out in inner city schools. The students taught lessons in both Language Arts and Social Studies in a sixth grade classroom.
Hitt, a Middle Education Major specializing in Language Arts and Social Studies, just completed his junior year at Mount Union with a 3.47 GPA. He is the son of Mike and Heather Hitt of Wellsville and a 2006 graduate of Wellsville High School.
Nikki Cibula
GROVE CITY, Pa. - Nikki Cibula graduated from Grove City College. She majored in political science with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Cibula, a 2005 graduate of Beaver Local High School, is the daughter of James and Lisa Marie Cibula of Lisbon.
Bethany Marshall
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Bethany D. Marshall, daughter of Wayne and Teri Marshall of Wellsville, is among 495 students who participated in Evangel University's 51st annual commencement ceremony on May 1, 2009.
Marshall earned a bachelor of business administration in business education, graduating cum laude. In addition, she was honored as Outstanding Graduate in Business Education.
William McNicol
BEREA, Ohio - William McNicol, of Wellsville, graduated from Baldwin Wallace College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Stephen Mercer
GROVE CITY, Pa. - Stephen Mercer graduated from Grove City College. He majored in electrical engineering with a BS degree. Mercer, a 2005 graduate of Beaver Local High School, is the son of Mark and Sheryl Mercer of East Liverpool.
Ryan Lynch
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Ryan Lynch, a pre-med major at Geneva College, was awarded to the fall and spring 2009 Dean's List.
A senior, Lynch graduated May 16, 2009, and has been accepted to the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy.
Lynch was a 2005 graduate of Beaver Local High School and is the son of Todd and Judy Lynch and grandson of Sue Lynch and the late Albert Lynch and Richard and Rose Cox, all from Calcutta.
Brandy Anderson
WELLSVILLE - Brandy Jo Anderson of Wellsville has made the President's List of Mountain State University, for spring semester 2009, with a 4.00 grade point average. She attends the satellite campus of MSU in Center Township, Monaca, Pa. Anderson will graduate in September with a Bachelors degree in Organizational Leadership Development.
Thomas West
EAST LIVERPOOL - Thomas Blake West, son of Abbie and Robert Milner and William T. West of East Liverpool, is the June Kiwanis Scholar. West is valedictorian in his senior class of 160 students at East Liverpool High School with a 4.0 grade point average.
West is a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Team, and the concert and marching band. He was a member of the football team for one year.
He plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in education or Music production.
Michael Emery
CHESTER - Michael W. Emery of Chester graduated magna cum laude from the Honors College of the University of Alabama on May 9, with a double major in economics and political science. While at Alabama, Emery was a member of a number of honoraries such as Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key, Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, and the Anderson Society. He was also involved in numerous campus activities such as The Other Club, the founding board of the University Stewards, the Blackburn Institute,student leadership in Alabama Action, and the crew team. He also had a weekly radio show on the campus radio network his junior year and was published in Mars Field Journal, the university's literary magazine, every semester but one. Emery was the recipient of the Faculty Excellence in Economics Award his junior and senior years, as well as being named an Outstanding Undergraduate in Economics his sophomore year.
Emery, a 2005 graduate of Oak Glen High School, was also awarded a graduate council fellowship to attend graduate school at the university where he will pursue his masters in economics. He is the son of Edsel and Sherry Emery of Chester and the grandson of Ruth Helen Wilson of Chester and Steve and Mary Kobily of Deltona, Fla.
Robert Harris, Jr.
EAST LIVERPOOL - Robert Harris, Jr. is recognized for his scholarship to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he will begin his studies in Game Art & Design this fall. He is also among the many students who were awarded a variety of Foundation Scholarships at the 2009 ELHS Senior Assembly held on May 28.
