EAST LIVERPOOL - James Edward Moats, 78 of Lincoln Avenue, died at 4:40 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman following a sudden illness.
Born March 17, 1931 in Arden, WVa., a son of the late Oda Benson and Mabel Eppie Moats, he lived most of his lifetime in the area.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a machinist for Homer Laughlin China Co. for 39 years. He attended Northside Church.
His wife, Lucinda A. Moats, whom he married May 3, 1954, survives at home.
Surviving are four daughters, Donna Brown and her fiance, Terry Sherrell, of Salineville, Debbie Bourne and her husband, John, of Hammondsville, Diana Adkins, of Calcutta, and Alisa Moats of East Palestine; and one son, Rodney Moats and his wife, Ellen, of Marietta, Ga.
Also surviving is a sister, Marion Reed, of Junior, WVa.
There are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, one sister, Wanda Weese, and a brother Donald Moats.
Pastor Larry Rose of the church is to conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery.
