SALINEVILLE - Former board member John Sawyer was chosen Monday night by the Southern Local Board of Education to replace Linda Boyle, who recently stepped down. Sawyer, of Steubenville-Pike Road, Hammondsville, served six years on the board in the 1990s and said in his application letter that his years of serving with the Department of Public Safety had given him the chance to see how schools in other parts of the state operate and renewed his interest in board service. He and other candidates will have to run for the seat in the November election since Boyle's term expires in December. The oath of office was administered by district Treasurer Doreen Marshall during the regular board meeting. (Photo by Jo Ann Bobby-Gilbert)
