Dean W. McPeek

EAST LIVERPOOL - Dean W. McPeek, of Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville, following a lengthy illness. He was 80.

Born on March 13, 1928 in New Matamoras, OH, he was the son of the late Gordon McPeek and Lula Hutchison McPeek DeLong. He had resided in this area since 1950, where he was a member of the 1st Church of Christ Disciples and also the Lions Club.

He served in Guam and in Saipan, Japan, with the Navy Seabees after World War II. Following his military duty, he worked for over 30 years at the former Crucible Steel, retiring in 1982.

Preceding him in death on January 16, 1992 was his first wife, Frances Conley McPeek.

Surviving him at home is his second wife, Margueritte Husted McPeek.

Also surviving is one son, Dennis McPeek and his wife, Debra, of Wellsville. There are two sisters, Wanda Hammett and her husband, Billy Joe, of Belmont, WV, and Mrs. Kathleen Binegar of Marietta, OH, along with one brother, Gordon Junior McPeek and his wife, Mary, of Newport, OH.

In addition, there is a step-daughter, Beth Hargreaves and her husband, Kent Engelhardt, of Youngstown, and a step-son, Charles A. Husted, of Lisbon. Two grandchildren, Frances McPeek and Dean McPeek, also survive, as well as one step granddaughter and four step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Dean's porch-sitting friend, Jack, his Jack Russell terrier.

Also preceding him in death was his step-father, Harold DeLong, as well as a sister, Verna Binegar, three brothers, Harry McPeek, Marvin McPeek, and Truman McPeek, and a step-son, Stan Hargreaves.

Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Willard Chuck Adkins of the church officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Following the services, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
