Sebring, FL - Mildred Farley Mercer, 99, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Palms Nursing Home in Sebring, Florida. Born June 9, 1909 in Racine, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Farley and Edna Farley Putnam of East Liverpool.
Mrs. Mercer lived her early life in East Liverpool and at one time worked at the D.M. Ogilvie Company. She was a dedicated wife and mother, raising her family in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, and Baltimore, MD. She retired to Florida in 1972 after the death of her husband, Walter H. Mercer, whom she married in April of 1934. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in America.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Farley Mercer and his wife, Jessie, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Stephen Craig Mercer and his wife, Gail, of Key Colony Beach, Florida. There are five grandchildren, David, Bruce, Scott, and Beth Mercer, and Shawna Mercer Wills. She leaves seven great grandchildren, Angela, Brian, Laura, Jason, Benjamin, Ross and Ty. She is also survived by two nephews, Philip Kumalae and John Kumalae.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Lou Ellen Mercer and a sister, Verna Kumalae.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Riverview Cemetery with Chaplain Duane Hetzer.
