EAST LIVERPOOL - John M. Torma, Sr. of Y & O Road, Wellsville, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at East Liverpool City Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in the family home in Wellsville, Ohio, on May 13, 1917, a son of the late Andy and Anna (Miller) Torma. Living his entire life in the area, Mr. Torma worked for Industrial Mining Co. as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1982. He was an avid bingo player, a devoted Beaver Local football fan and enjoyed golfing at Beaver Creek Meadows Golf Course where he had two holes in one's on no. 16. He also was an avid gardener and had Torma's Greenhouse and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
His wife, Erma M. (Pezzle) Torma, whom he married June 15, 1946, died Aug. 7, 1996.
He is survived by a son, John A. Torma and his wife, Veronica of East Liverpool; and a daughter, Terry Greasel and her husband, Larry of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael and Lisa Carney of Canton, Ohio, Misty Torma of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Jennifer Hart and her husband, Rick of Vero Beach, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Felisha, Michaelena, Lee-Ann, Elizabeth, Logan, Delaney and Tanner.
Besides his parents and wife, two sisters, Mary Wilkinson and Anna Mitchell and a great-great-grandchild, Tere Carney preceded him in death.
Services will he held at the East Liverpool Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, with the Rev. Willard Adkins of First Church of Christ Disciples, officiating.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri Sate Burial Group and the Honor Guard of the West Virginia National Guard will accord full military honors.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral Home in East Liverpool from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008.
