NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. - Bill Cabana Sr., 76, of New Brighton, passed away, Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at the Sewickley Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
Bill was born Aug. 22, 1932 in Boston, Mass., a son of the late John and Katherine (Sheehan) Cabana and was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a barber in New Brighton for eleven years and then worked as a chemical technician at Nova Chemical where he retired in 1995. He was a faithful member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Brighton where he sang in the choir; served on the church council and was a dedicated property chairman and maintenance man. Bill also was a longtime volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, Rochester, Pa. He was an avid Steeler fan and also loved his daily decaf and friends at the New Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe.
Surviving are his wife of Eleanor (Straile) Cabana, whom he married, May 25, 1955, three sons, Bill Cabana Jr., of North Sewickley Twp., Edward Cabana of Pittsburgh, Daniel (Shelly) Cabana of New Brighton, two daughters, Lynnda (Ed) Whisler of New Brighton, Janice (Frank) Juszczak of Chester, W.Va., eight grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Bodoin of Saginaw, Mich., Leslie Bodoin and Eddie Whisler of Beaver Falls, Pa., Matthew Juszczak attending W.V.U., Rebecca Juszczak of Chester, Christopher Cabana of North Sewickley, Tyler Cabana of New Brighton and Kaleb Cabana of Pittsburgh, one brother, James Cabana of Framington, Mass., three sisters, Cora (Mark) Horst of Lebanon, Pa., Theresa (Don) Calderone of Taunton, Mass., Joan Smith of Ono, Pa., one sister-in-law, Christine Kelly of Burgettstown, one brother-in-law, Raymond (Dolores) Straile of Johnson City, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Cabana, three sisters, Catherine DePaula, Helen Jeffers, and Anna Previti.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 and from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Avenue, New Brighton, Pa. Monday visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 10th Ave., New Brighton, Pa., where the funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William B. Henry Jr., officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester, Pa.
The family request memorials be made in his name if desired to either the Trinity E.L. Church or the Meals-on-Wheels, Rochester, Pa.
