Boil order in effect in Salineville due to storm
SALINEVILLE - Village administrator and Fire Chief Jeff Lewis stated that the entire village has been without electricity since 7 p.m. Sunday evening due to a wind storm that tore through the area.
Buckeye Water District (BWD) placed a precautionary boil advisory on Maple Hill Road and Monroeville Heights until further notice because of an electrical failure at the pump stations.
According to Lewis, BWD brought in a backup generator for the water treatment plant. The sewage plant is also runnng on generators.
There are trees down throughout the area, Lewis said.
A porch awning belonging to a resident on Jefferson Street was blown off, as well as a tin roof on a building in the village.
WELLSVILLE - Village Mayor Joe Surace estimated that 35 percent of the village is without power after four transformers went out as a wind storm blew through the area Sunday night.
According to Surace, residents without power may experience a delay of 24 hours or more before American Electric Power can restore electricity.
Surace asked that any residents who have tree branches or telephone or electric lines down contact village hall immediately.
Village administrator Jim Saracco stated that the street crew, fire department, and volunteer fire department have been working since 8 p.m. Sunday to clear trees and debris and make the streets passable.
"We understand that there's still a lot more to be done," Saracco said, "But a lot of it has to do with the electrical wires that are tangled in the trees and so on."
Saracco and Surace both stated their gratitude toward the residents for their patience.
"We will get everything done as soon as we can," Saracco said.
According to village Fire Chief Bill Smith, 10th Street has been blocked off as a result of high tension wires that are down.
A telephone pole fell on the corner of 12th and Clover streets, and part of Riverside Avenue, behind the F.O.E. 772 building, has been blocked off for high-tension power lines that came down.
Classes at Wellsville Local Schools were canceled Monday as a result of some electricity being out.
According to Board of Education president Tom Brophey, school was also canceled because of several trees down in the streets. The buses, Brophey said, were not able to get through the downed trees to pick up students.
