Windell L. Adkins, 67September 5, 2008EAST LIVERPOOL Windell L. Adkins, 67, of Ohio Avenue, died at 3:18 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 20, 1941, in Hamlin, W.Va., a son of the late Warren and Lola Adkins, he spent 42 years in East Liverpool, moving here from Hamlin. A Protestant by faith, he retired from the American Steel Foundries in Alliance, Ohio, in 2001, after 35 years of service. Surviving are four sisters, Sarah Cooper of Griffithsville, W.Va.; Thelma Adkins of East Liverpool, with whom he resided; Sue Albert and her husband, Dennis, of Alliance; and Diane Cummings and her husband Steve of St. Albans, W.Va. Also surviving are two brothers, the Rev. Bacil Adkins and his wife, Margaret, of East Liverpool; and Bennie Adkins and his wife, Daisy, of East Liverpool. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rumzy Byrd, Lou Adkins and Ruth Adkins, and two brothers, Blenard Adkins and Bernie Adkins. He is survived by 41 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews, as well as four special friends, Bobby, Joe, Steve and Chris. The family offers special thanks to Hospice of the Valley nurses, Wendy and Koby, and to Adkins Nursing Home No. 2, especially their aides, who took wonderful care of him. The Rev. Jerry Rose, formerly of the Hamlin Baptist Church, is to conduct services at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Koontz Funeral Home in Hamlin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home and from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Koontz Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Walker-Adkins Cemetery near Hamlin.
