EAST LIVERPOOL - Steven W. Curtis, 52, of Martha Street, East Liverpool, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Hospice House in Youngstown,, following a three-month battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Wellsville on March 6, 1956, a son of Beverly (Coleman) Curtis of Webster, Fla., and the late Chester Curtis. A lifelong area resident, Mr. Curtis worked for 34 years for the Columbia Gas Transmission Corp., most recently as manager for The Mid Atlantic Region, last working two weeks ago.
He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1974, and enjoyed running in marathons. He ran in the Pittsburgh Marathon four times and in the Columbus Marathon two times.
Mr. Curtis is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Loveland) Curtis, whom he married in 1977; a son, Shane Curtis of East Liverpool; a brother, Mike Pelley of Florida; two sisters, Sandy Hardy of Florida and Debbie Curtis of Lisbon.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Shannon C. Curtis in 1995, and his biological father, George J. Jurkovac.
Services will he held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Sturm officiating.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park
Family and friends will gather for food and fellowship at the East Liverpool Chapel and Hospitality Center of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 145 West 5th St., East Liverpool, following the services.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
