OHIOVILLE - Bones discovered near the mouth of Little Beaver Creek this week are to be examined today to determine whether or not they are human.

Authorities say children found the bones around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday while swimming under a train trestle near Ohioville's Locke 57 Park, just off Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road near the stateline. A child reportedly stepped on a bone near the creek's bank. One of the children then told their mother who called police.

The Beaver County Times reported Chief Deputy Coroner Renea Esoldo as saying the bone she was shown was long and broken. Clarence Dawson, the Ohioville Fire Chief, reported the first bone discovered was nearly nine-inches long.

The children claimed to see more bones in the water, and as a result the Beaver Falls Fire Department dive team was called to search Thursday morning and found more bones, one reportedly with a joint on one end. It was found about 30 feet from the creek's bank.

Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi told The Review Thursday that the findings will be examined today, and, according to the Times, forensic pathologist Dr. James Smith will be included in the investigation.

State police say it's too early to tell if the bones are human.

"I just think that it's something that needs investigated. We can't let anything like this go," Esoldo told the Times.
