EAST LIVERPOOL - A second restroom facility for Thompson Park is closer to reality after bids were opened Wednesday.
The lone bidder, Diloreto Construction, Inc. based in East Liverpool, was formally awarded the contract Thursday, according to East Liverpool Mayor Jim Swoger. The company entered a bid of $114,199.80 with two alternate possibilities that would deduct from the total amount.
On Thursday, Thompson Park Board members opted to accept one alternate item where PVC underground pipe will be used in place of copper. That will save the project $3,484.
Park board members opted to stick with using ceramic wall tile in the bathroom instead of paint.
A&I Studio based in East Liverpool assisted with the blueprints and construction plans.
"It is basically a twin to the one at Park Boulevard and Park Way," A&I Studio representative Scott Shepherd told Thompson Park Board members at a recent meeting.
The park is using a $100,000 grant to help construct the facility. Swoger said park board officials will have to raise funds to cover the roughly $10,000 shortfall.
As for the design, Shepherd said, "We wanted to make sure the rest room is as vandal-resistant as we can make it."
Once a notice to proceed is issued, Diloreto Construction will have 90 days to complete the project.
