Bids awarded for West Point project
By DAVID M. GRIMES (dgrimes@reviewonline.com)ROGERS - The Beaver Local board and superintendent have initialized the first steps in the repair of West Point Elementary School after it was voted to reopen the damaged building.
At a special board meeting Monday night, at the administration building, the board unanimously passed a resolution to waive the procedures to advertise and solicit bids for the repairs of the elementary school. Immediately afterwards, a motion was unanimously passed to award about $250,000 worth of bids to several area businesses to help fix the school before the first day of school on Aug. 25.
At the meeting on June 18, DiBacco said the total repair costs would be in the ballpark of $500,000. The difference in costs from Monday's meeting is the result of some of the costs being paid straight from the insurance company.
"Actually, for the grouting and sealing of the floor and the radar scans, they're paying directly," DiBacco said.
In addition, some costs "are not part of the restoration" efforts outlined at the meeting, the superintendent added.
Some of the costs, like the electrical and water heater fixes, were finished before the review of the final insurance reports, said DiBacco.
At the meeting, the following area businesses were awarded bids for the West Point restoration project:
Doug Sanford Heating & Cooling was awarded $150,000 and Brad's Carpet and Restoration was awarded $41,933.88. Sanford Plumbing and Mint Cook Excavating was awarded $3,800 and $900, respectively.
Also, MS Consulting who provided the environmental and structural reports and analysis will be awarded $50,000.

l the board hired a new high school social studies, language arts/English and Spanish teacher for the upcoming school year. Allison Sant, Emily Pierce and Christine Schreffler each received one-year contracts.
