COLUMBIANA – Gladys E. Pethtel, formerly of Route 30, Chester, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana, following a lengthy illness. She was 95.
Born in East Liverpool on July 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Maude Robinson Brewer.
Having lived in this area for most of her life, she had worked at Homer Laughlin China Company as well as the former TS & T, from where she had retired.
A member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene, she was also a lifetime member of both the Chester American Legion and the VFW Auxiliaries.
Preceding her in death on Nov. 14, 1988, was her husband, Isaac H. “Ike” Pethtel, whom she married on Oct. 7, 1940.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ruth Norman of Wellsville, and two sons, Samuel B. “Bud” Kraft of Wellsville, and Isaac J. Pethtel and his wife, Vickie, of Glen Allen, Va.
Also surviving is one sister, Ruby Walker and her husband, Kenneth, of East Liverpool, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Pethtel was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace and Dorothy, as well as four brothers, Harley, William, Edward and Leonard.
Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Pastor John Mehaffey officiating.
Burial will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will return to the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
