West Branch teacher killed in crash

BELOIT — A two-vehicle accident Thursday morning claimed the life of a Beloit Elementary School teacher. Jennifer Baker, 33, Kensington, was driving south at 8:38 a.m. Thursday on Rochester Road .6 miles south of Georgetown Road in Butler Township when a northbound vehicle driven by Rikki Wheatley III, 19, Mechanicstown, went left of center and struck Baker’s vehicle head-on, according to the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Baker, who was not wearing a seat belt, died as a result of the collision. Wheatley was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Baker’s 7-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter, who were in her vehicle at the time of the crash, were transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton. The crash is under investigation and the Highway Patrol had not filed any charges as of Thursday. Baker taught third grade at Beloit Elementary School, having previously taught fifth grade there.
