CHESTER — An East Liverpool man was seriously injured due to a workplace accident along Route 30 in Chester.
An employee of Get-R-Done Paving, Scott Jackson, 26, of Lisbon Street, was working on a project in the parking lot lane between Chuggers and The Pint, located at 1294 Lincoln Highway, according to Sgt. Chuck Stanley of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
“There were two guys working and shoveling to patch holes,” Stanley said. “There was some sort of miscommunication and the truck backed up and one of them, Jackson, was hit and run over.

Jermain Taylor is back
Thu, July 24, 2008 @ 10:55PM
It will have been a nine-month layoff by the time Jermain Taylor steps back into the ring on Nov. 15, but at least he's coming back. After two stunning defeats at the hands of middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, Taylor plans to make his super middleweight debut against Jeff Lacy on HBO. Taylor (27-2, 17 KOs) and Lacy (24-1, 17 KOs) have much in common. First, they were Olympic teammates in 2000. Second, they have only been beaten by undefeated world champions - Taylor by Pavlik and Lacy by Joe Calzaghe. Both are good fighters and this fight (at a site still to be determined) should be quite entertaining. The bout will be a WBC eliminator, with the winner guarenteed a shot at the currently vacant title. Carl Froch (23-0, 19 KOs) and Jean Pascal (21-0, 14 KOs) are expected to meet, with that winner being the opponent. This is a crossroads fight for both fighters.

Golf is doing fine without Tiger
Mon, July 21, 2008 @ 10:55PM
I can't say I'm one for golf. I rarely play it and when I do I'm not good at it. I don't really watch it - save for the occasional highlight on TV. The closest I've gotten to the links in the past season was playing Putt-Putt. But as a sports fan, I couldn't have been happier to see someone else's mug other than Tiger Woods plastered on SportsCenter during the British Open. It seems that Woods is the only golfer to get coverage. He may be on the top of the money lists - making a whopping $5,775,000 in six events this year - but there are other guys playing the game. So, with the biggest name in American sports since Michael Jordan sidelined after knee surgery, I actually found myself following the Open Championship. Not because Woods wasn't in the field; because in all actuality I like the red-clad fist pumper. But because I was actually intrigued to see who would win. I wasn't waiting for Woods to make his final day push. Or waiting to see him tee off.

Be sly, go straight to voicemail
Thu, July 24, 2008 @ 11:47AM
Have you ever called someone and hoped they wouldn't pick up? You know, you're wishing the call would finally reach their voicemail. A new service called Slydial makes those wishes come true. You just dial the Pennsylvania-based Slydial number and then dial the number of the person you want to call. You have to hear a short ad before it connects you straight to that person's voicemail. So if breaking up over text message is too impersonal, you can now at least leave a voicemail.

There is no off season
Thu, July 24, 2008 @ 0:33AM
This entire blog entry may come out the wrong way. There. I now have immunity and can say anything I want to say because if you took it the wrong way, it was never meant to be that way at all, so it’s you who should be giving the apology, buster. My point is that I am tired of thinking or, more accurately, having to think about everything all of the time. Information is a good thing. The Internet is amazing. Knowledge is power. The only dumb question is the question not asked … I get the idea. For goodness sake, my job is dealing with information and trying to present it in a reasonable, and yes, entertaining, way. But then there are times when I want to shut it off, but that has become impossible. There is no off season. The political season is always in full swing.

Things I've learned raising a three-year-old
Wed, July 16, 2008 @ 8:16PM
No matter how many times I ask Zach before I hop in the shower, he will choose half-way through my shower to tell my he needs his Pull-Up changed. Zach has no fear. A recent trip to Lake Erie proved this fact. The minute we got out of the car, he headed straight for the water. Didn't matter how deep or how cold the water was, he was going in. No matter what he says he wants to eat, someone else's food always tastes better. Most people think he's a really cute kid and oh, so innocent ... little secret, at nap time and bedtime, he turns into a real monster. Even if I listen to Kenny Chesney or Jimmy Buffet on my way to work, the rest of the day I will have Thomas the Tank Engine songs running through my head. When I get a new cell phone, I should just give it to Zach ... he will show me how to work it. Sleeping in means 9 a.m. It is possible to need two baths in one day.
