Boxing back at Mountaineer

April 10, 2012 - Paul Edgar
Former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr. is bringing boxing back to Mountaineer. The eight-time world champ, in association with TNT Promotions, is presenting "Live Championship Boxing from The Harv at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort" on Saturday, April 28. In the main event, former IBA titlist and currently world-ranked super featherweight Monty Meza-Clay (32-3, 21 KO) will be fighting an opponent as yet unknown. The co-main event will feature another super featherweight, the unbeaten Yuandale Evans (16-0, 12 KO) who hails from Cleveland. Others fighters scheduled to appear include, heavyweight Jason Bergman (18-9-2, 12 KO), Morgan Fitch (4-0, 2 KO), light heavyweight Jaque Lutz (4-0, 2 KO), welterweight Billy Hutchinson (2-1-1, 2 KO) and cruiserweight Josh Himes (debut). Fitch, Lutz and Hutchinson all hail from Pittsburgh, while Bergman is from Adah, Pa., and Himes is from Beaver Falls. Base ticket prices are: VIP $100, Section A $50, Section B $35, and Bleachers $25. Tickets can be purchased at Mountaineer Casino’s Players Club in person or by calling the Players Club at 1-800-804-0468 Ext: 8297, online at www.MOREatMountaineer.com or www.Etix.com First bell is at 7:30 p.m. I plan on being ringside for the event, and it's nice to see live, competitive pro boxing return to Mountaineer. It has been the site of many great fights over the years, and here's to hoping it returns to one of the best boxing venues in the area. I recently spoke with Youngstown trainer Jack Loew who said he would be interested in some of his fighters competing at Mountaineer. Until next time, I'm throwing in the towel.
