Pavlik is back

April 3, 2012 - Paul Edgar
There has been another "Ghost" sighting. Youngstown boxer Kelly Pavlik made a successful return to the ring over the weekend scoring a second round TKO over Aaron Jaco in San Antonio. For Pavlik (38-2, 33KOs), it was his first fight since a unanimous decision win over Alfonso Lopez in May of last year. It was also Pavlik's first camp with new trainer Robert Garcia, who is based in Oxnard, Calif. Now, granted, Jaco wasn't expected to give the former middleweight champion much of a fight, but Pavlik got the job done in impressive fashion. It appears Pavlik will continue on the comeback trail June 8 as the headliner for an ESPN2 Friday Night Fights card at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino which falls on the eve of the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley bout on HBO pay-per-view. No opponent has been named as of yet, but Pavlik's promoter Top Rank appears to be lining the fighter up against another mid-level opponent. The hope is Pavlik will look good once again and be ready for top-flight opposition in the fall. Here's to hoping Pavlik once again reaches the top. Until next time, I'm throwing in the towel.
