| | Mosley in the mix — againJanuary 26, 2012 - Paul EdgarIt appears that former pound-for-pound king Shane Mosley, at the ripe old age of 40, could once again be in the mix for some major fights in 2012. A three-division champion, Mosley is 2-3-1 in his last six fights, and has not looked good at all in his last three (0-2-1). In his last fight, Mosley put up little resistance — and seemingly little effort — in a lopsided loss to Manny Pacquiao last May. Nothing much has been heard from Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KOs) since that time. But, recently he has said he is ready to return to the ring and several big names are being tossed around as possible opponents. Apparently, Mosley has been contacted about possible bouts with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Amir Khan. The Khan fight seems less likely as weight could be a deal breaker. Khan has been fighting at 140 pounds and is ready to move up in weight, but Mosley says he is unlikely to accept a fight below 150 pounds. Alvarez is a champion at 154 pounds, and Mosley believes he is up for that challenge. After his disappointing performance against Pacquiao, I'm not sure I'm buying into this fight. At 40, Mosley isn't anywhere near the fighter he once was. That being said, if Mosley could pull out a showing like he did in 2009 against Antonio Margarito, he could give Alvarez a run for his money. Alvarez is young and full of talent, but has been heavily protected to this point and Mosley would be, by far, his toughest opponent to date. Until next time, I'm throwing in the towel.
