| | Pacquiao-Mayweather?November 4, 2011 - Paul EdgarOn Wednesday, one of Floyd Mayweather's advisers, Leonard Ellerbe, told ESPN.com that Mayweather was going to be fighting again on May 5 and that the MGM in Las Vegas was on hold for the bout. Ellerbe said they were holding out for the biggest fight and even named Manny Pacquiao as a possible opponent. Could the mega-fight be happening for real this time? There's still a long way to go before anybody can feel safe saying that. Pacquiao promoter, Bob Arum, said he is not taking Mayweather's announcement seriously. Pacquiao is set to defend his welterweight title against Juan Manuel Marquez on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas in the third fight between the two. Arum said he believes Mayweather is trying to steal some attention from Pacquiao, and that if he was serious, they would have come to discuss it with him privately. True, fights aren't usually made by one guy saying we're fighting on this date at this location. Especially, when the two fighters are the sport's two biggest stars. But then again, Mayweather has never done things by the book. Maybe Floyd is serious about getting into the ring with the Filipino. Only time will tell. Until next time, I'm throwing in the towel.
