March 6, 2009 - Pam Anthony
So far 2009 has been the year of changes for Zach and I.
We moved in January. There wasn’t really anything wrong with our old apartment besides the fact that it was being overtaken by toys. I wasn’t looking for a new place … it just kind of happened. My brother, his wife and I were talking at church one morning and somehow got on the subject that the apartment beside them was available. I was curious about the rent, Bill called the landlord, the next day I went to look at, two days later I get a call that it’s mine if I want it, two weeks later we moved in.
It is a two bedroom, top of an old farmhouse. Our old apartment was in a building with about 12 apartments total, it was a secure building which made me feel safe but anytime anyone came over without a key I would have to run downstairs and let them in. Our new home is in the country on an old farm, plenty of land for Zach to play in … if the weather ever gets nice enough to play outside.
The weekend we moved … also known as the weekend of the blizzard … Zach stayed at his Dad’s. When he came home Sunday evening, I didn’t know what he would think of our new home. Not everything got moved and some of his toys were still in boxes or at the old place. I was afraid he would be upset that not all of his toys were immediately at his disposal. However, I guess I underestimated him. He took everything in stride and just made do with what he had.
Last month, I bought Zach a big boy bed. He had a race car bed for a couple of years, however it was just the toddler size and it was time to move up. I found a really nice bed with drawers underneath for toys which eliminated some of the clutter in his room. He loves his new bed, with Thomas bedding, of course.
I also decided it was time for a new car. The car I was driving was a two-door ‘93 Mercury Topaz. It was a great little car, when it ran. However, with our new driveway, I really needed 4-wheel drive. Now I have a 2000 Chevy Tracker. Zach loves it. He likes sitting higher and being able to see out the windows a little better.
I have learned, so far this year, Zach handles change pretty well. I wasn’t sure how he would deal with it but he seems to take it all in stride. When we first moved, he occasionally asked which home we were going to, but he has figured it out. He has also told me he likes his new home better.
Hopefully, we won’t have any more major changes this year.
