Birthday fit for a king
January 28, 2009 - Pam Anthony
Zachary turned four on Monday. We celebrated with a party on Sunday at Burger King.
I was not sure I wanted to do this at first. Thought perhaps he would not enjoy it as much as just a small, family party like we have done in the past. However, now that he is in preschool and goes to church and playgroup, he has made some friends this past year.
He went to a birthday party at BK in November. When he got home I asked him if he had fun. He told me he had a lot of fun. I asked him if he wanted his birthday party there and he was very excited about it.
So I called the local Burger King and got prices and checked to see if it was available on Jan. 25. Luckily enough, it was.
I asked Zach who he wanted to invite. He told me "everyone." That didn't really help me much.
I asked his preschool teacher what most parents did in this situation. She told me normally you give out enough for everyone in the class. So I made enough invitations for everyone in class.
Lesson learned ... no one RSVPs until closer to the party. They had three weeks, RSVPs did not start rolling in until the week of the party. Which, I understand ... especially this time of year.
So the party was this past Sunday, remember all the snow? I thought for sure that very few of the kids would show up but we had 15 kids ... and a few adults who acted like kids. Everyone had a great time.
When it came time to eat I thought there was no way they would all sit down and eat, surprisingly when the food came, all 15 sat down and ate ... and remained seated for the cake, too.
Just my advice, if anyone is planning a birthday party. Burger King was the easiest party we have had so far. Everything is taken care of, from the decorations to the clean-up ... including the cake and ice cream. I had thought of a Chuck E. Cheese party, but it is just too far away for a January birthday ... especially with the snow storm we had that day.
Happy Birthday, Munchkin.
