Trustees look to board up Dewey Avenue property
The house on 2017 Dewey Ave. might be boarded up soon since the Liverpool Township Trustees passed a motion to start an effort to secure the building to keep neighboring residence safe. The building is missing doors, windows, siding, drywall and most of the porch. Trustee Keith Burke said needles, possibly from trespassers, have been found on the property as well. (Photo by David M. LaCROFT — The pieces are starting to fall into place for a fallen building on Dewey Avenue as Liverpool Township Trustees passed a motion to board the building.
At Monday night’s trustees meeting, Steve Betteridge, Karl Kontnier and Keith Burke agreed to start the process of securing the property at 2017 Dewey Ave. After speaking with their attorney Andrew Beech, and gathering the appropriate information, it was determined that the building could not be torn down, said Burke. But they could begin to board up the residence.

Cage fighting hits primetime
Mon, May 19, 2008 @ 10:34PM
CBS use to showcase Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart on its Saturday night primetime lineup. Now they're going with cage fighting. CBS recently announced that it will be broadcasting mixed martial arts (MMA) in a deal that will air four bouts of Elitexc fighters, the first being May 31. I'm not exactly sure what my beef with cage fighting is, but I just don't get it. My uncle Gene brought me up in the sport of boxing and he always told me that MMA wasn't a worthy sport becuase they hit people when they're already down. I just wish network tv would give boxing another chance. In my estimation, all boxing needs is some exposure. If big-time fights were on cable television instead of $50 on pay-per-view, people would get back into the sport. You only need to see a Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton or Kelly Pavlik once to get hooked. But instead we're going to be introduced to Tito Ortiz or some Shamrock fella.

Quick, someone get me a box of Animal Crackers
Wed, May 14, 2008 @ 10:30PM
Playoff fever has left me a little drained. The chills I’ve received from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics series can only be treated with a can of Ginger Ale and a box of Animal Crackers. As a loyal Cavs fan — I have a LeBron James bobblehead on my desk thank you very much – I almost had to stop watching SportsCenter after the 89-73 loss in Game 2. Since I’ve qualified myself as a fan by noting that King James is currently agreeing with everything I say by shaking his head “Yes,” I have a hard time saying that I was sure it was all over. There wouldn’t be a playoff run this year. The struggles just started too early. The trash talking from the Washington Wizards had done the trick, but it had taken a few days longer to kick in than they would have liked. After going down 2-0 to the best team in the NBA, there was no way that James could overcome the deficit and his hardships to orchestrate a comeback. But, much to my surprise, I was wrong.

Sprint, say it's not so
Tue, May 20, 2008 @ 1:27AM
I live out in a rural area of Salem, OH. I have a Salem address, but it literally takes me 10 to 15 minutes to get to the area of downtown Salem. I can see, just about, four neighbors, and it's probably that high of a number because I live atop a hill. A farm stretches across the street. I dodge tractors on my way to work every day. It's the boonies. Getting Internet access was trouble. I tried to go back to dialup. But I found out once you get broadband, you can never go back. Well, never go back and be sane. Cable internet access was not possible, DSL was not an option and satellite internet was very, very expensive. So I opted to purchase one of the those broadband cards from Sprint. I've had Sprint cellphone service since the late nineties, so it was logical to purchase an agreement with them. They had a good rebate deal, they were very helpful at the store and, most importantly, they had an unlimited Internet option. It was great.

Flyers need to pipe down
Mon, May 12, 2008 @ 7:46PM
The Philadelphia Flyers, fresh off being schooled in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals, have apparently figured out what the problem is. The referees. Nevermind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Nevermind Marian Hossa and Marc-Andre Fleury. The reason for the Flyers back-to-back 4-2 losses to the Penguins is the on-ice officials. At least that's according to Philadelphia. "Obviously, (the Penguins) might get protected a little bit more," Flyers forward Daniel Briere said. "That's understandable, but when they do some of the cheap shots that they're doing I think it would be fair for everybody that they get the same treatment in that regard." That's just a small sample of the boo-hooing the Flyers are doing. It starts with their coach, John Stevens, and it trickles down to the players as you just read from Briere. That's fine, let them keep blaming it on the officials.

ET may phone home, but may not use up my roaming minutes
Wed, May 14, 2008 @ 3:43PM
I wish to delve into territory that is not mine because fellow reporter David Grimes handles the tech beat for The Review Blog Crew (TRBC). But Grimes talks about all the new fangled doodads and whatnots of today and fails to mention where it all comes from and the long, torturous road technology has traveled. For example, there is the cell phone ... A modern piece of technology that is sleek and stylish that has become more of a hip gadget/status symbol than a means of communication. I remember my first cell phone. I thought I was cool. The phone I got in the early 1980s is now known as a “brick phone” simply because it was shaped – and was heavy – like a brick. It worked in a radius of about 20 feet from the one cell tower in town. But, it made and received phone calls.

Potty Time
Sat, May 10, 2008 @ 11:29PM
Yes, it's true, I'm finally starting my blog. Let me just say, blogging is totally new to me. I do enjoy reading the ones of my fellow co-workers and I will read my sister's blogs on her myspace page, it's a nice way to see what's going on with her and my nieces in Wichita, Kan. My blog will probably be mostly about my three-year-old, Zachary. Take for instance, potty training. Zachary is the most stubborn three-year-old. We've tried the reward. He used the potty, he got a sticker. Next morning, I tell him it's time to go potty and if he does, he can have another sticker. Zach says, "I already have a sticker." Apparently one sticker is all this kid needs. Grandma, who watches Zach while I'm working, and I are trying the timer method right now. The timer is set every 20 minutes and we make him sit on the potty.
