De La Hoya-Pacquiao
Mon, August 4, 2008 @ 11:30PM
Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank are apparently getting closer to a deal that would see mega star Oscar De La Hoya take on one of the sport's pound-for-pound best in Manny Pacquiao Dec. 6 in Las Vegas. There are still plenty of details to be hammered out, but it appears both sides want to make the fight a reality. According to De La Hoya (39-5, 30 KOs), the bout would be his last. The Golden Boy had wanted to end his career with rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr., before the welterweight king retired. If the fight happens, Pacquaio (47-3-2, 35 KOs) would be moving up in weight again. Pacquaio started his career at 106 pounds and would have to move up to welterweight (147 pounds) to challenge De La Hoya. Pacquaio recently moved up from 130 to the 135-pound lightweight limit and won a title in his fifth division by dominating David Diaz June 28. Some trash talking has apparently already caused a stir between the two camps.

Leaving on a jet plane
Wed, July 30, 2008 @ 11:07PM
The latest quandary to present itself to the assemblage of NBA hoopsters doesn't involve picking between Nike or Adidas, Gatorade or Vitamin Water or to high sock or not high sock. This involved money. But not the kind we're used to. If the axiom that money talks is accurate than the Euro must be screaming at the top of its lungs at the moment. The lure of tax free cash provided by Europe's top hoops squads has begun to beckon the league's groundlings to it's streamlined courts. The biggest name to jump the pond is the Atlanta Hawks' Josh Childress. Childress - the No. 6 overall pick out of Stanford in 2004 - left Hotlanta for Greek club Olympiakos and a three-year, $20 million dollar deal. Though he will be competing against inferior talent, in an inferior league, Childress will bank nearly double what he was offered to stay with the Hawks. Generally American fans can't take the idea that anyone would leave a U.S. league to play overseas in anything other than soccer.

EA Sports - Favre as a Jet, he's in the game
Thu, August 7, 2008 @ 9:25PM
Favre will remain a Packer... on the cover of EA Sport's Madden 09 game that will be released August 12. But never fear, it has been reported that EA will release a patch, available on the same day the game goes on sale, that will update rosters, including putting the once-Packer QB in a Jets uniform. For the die-hard fans, it looks like the company will release a Madden 09 cover with the New York Favre. Fans just have to download and print out the cover and slide it in the game box. It should be available any day now. Capitalizing on the Favre frenzy, EA has released some simulations that predict how he'll do on his new team. The game simulated the season and had the Jets winning 11 games, instead of 9 without him. There's some nifty photos of Favre, in game, with the Jets uniform on as well. So if you haven't had enough Brett Favre for the past several weeks, enjoy some more of it with Madden.

There is no off season
Thu, July 24, 2008 @ 0:33AM
This entire blog entry may come out the wrong way. There. I now have immunity and can say anything I want to say because if you took it the wrong way, it was never meant to be that way at all, so it’s you who should be giving the apology, buster. My point is that I am tired of thinking or, more accurately, having to think about everything all of the time. Information is a good thing. The Internet is amazing. Knowledge is power. The only dumb question is the question not asked … I get the idea. For goodness sake, my job is dealing with information and trying to present it in a reasonable, and yes, entertaining, way. But then there are times when I want to shut it off, but that has become impossible. There is no off season. The political season is always in full swing.

Day out with Thomas ... need I say more?
Sun, July 27, 2008 @ 9:37PM
For anyone with a Thomas the Tank Engine fan, you might have seen the videos of a Day out with Thomas. This event took place recently in Peninsula, Ohio. I decided to take Zach. As we were getting ready to leave, Zach kept telling me he wanted to go look at books. Yep, was more excited about looking at books than actually riding Thomas. One thing I will warn you, it is all outside. They did have tents set up, but the ground was very muddy. I made the mistake of wearing flip flops, not a good idea. There were several tents with train displays from the small sets that all the kids have to the large model trains. Of course, the event was sponsored by Lego so there was a large Thomas made of Legos as well. Sir Topham Hatt was there in a tent where the kids could have their picture taken. Zach wanted no part of that. Tents set up with storytelling, music and videos. There was a food tent, petting zoo and a bounce house.
