The countdown and resolutions

Dear Editor:

In thinking of New Year’s and the big countdown and resolutions that we make today and break tomorrow, my thoughts turn from the traditional New Year’s festivities and all, to a different mindset regarding the New Year.

Regarding the big countdown: There is a bigger countdown than the one held in New York City. This countdown started many, many years ago, but is coming to a close or a final ball drop.

This countdown can be summed up with these words: “… behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the Day of Salvation.” (II Corinthians 6:2) We must all be ready … for the ball has almost finished dropping. “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.” (Matthew 25:13)

Regarding resolutions: There is One who made a resolve (decision) and has not broken His resolve. He will not break His promises to us. In Luke 19:10, we read, “For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” He is continually seeking us to save us. II Peter 3:9 states, “The Lord is not slack concerning His Promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to Repentance.” Phillippians 2:10-11 says, “That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in Earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father.”

Make this New Year a time to celebrate and rejoice in the new life which can be found only in Christ Jesus. Accept Him and all He has done for you. Accept Him today as Lord and Savior of your life. It’s your choice.
