City program praised

Dear Editor:

Kudos to the city of East Liverpool and its campaign to revitalize itself.

We were not able to take any items to HTS on Earth Day because they were too heavy and bulky for us.

I called City Hall, and Robin, the Mayor’s secretary, told me about another free service the city is offering and it is wonderful.

All you do is place any unwanted items on the side walk in front of your home, make an appointment with her and a truck with a huge claw on it comes to you and picks up your items.

We had old TVs, a dehumidifier, sewing machine, a typewriter, and all kinds of unused articles lined up in the front of the house. Old tools, an old metal trash can full of whatever, a record player, and I could go on and on.

We watched with amazement as Randy, the gentleman who controls the claw, pick up item after item. He even climbed down and physically picked up any little items that the claw had dropped.

Then we went out to thank him and pay a fee. He informed us that it is a free service offered by the city and to call him again if we found more items we were timid about placing outside this time.

He also educated us to the fact that neighborhoods that have an empty lot in their environment have gone together, cleaned the lot out, called him for disposal and then have proceeded to keep the lot mowed and litter free.

He said that the idea is really catching on and how pleased he is to be a part of this new movement to “clean up East Liverpool.”

So don’t be shy and don’t try and haul your own objects to St. George Street when all you have to do is the minute work of placing the items out front of your own house.

Randy is really a proud citizen and very pleasant when working.

So once again, thank you Randy and thank you East Liverpool for this wonderful service. And a thanks must go to that huge claw.

May God continue to bless our city as she moves forward in a new growth pathway. It’s such a wonderful thing.
