Chester voters should head to polls Tuesday

The city of Chester conducts elections Tuesday, and we’re hopeful of a positive turnout in registered voters.

Polling places are convenient as residents of all five Wards vote at the City Building. Ballots may be cast from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

And, every registered voter – there are 1,289 within the city – will have at least one contested race to decide upon as the next mayor will be voted into office.

What we like about this election is that voters have options.

Too often, throughout our little section of the world, we see a lack of participation. And many times that leads to a lack of interest when Election Day rolls around.

But on Tuesday, Chester will have options.

Incumbent Ken Morris, mayor of the northern-most city in West Virginia for 14-straight years and 18 years overall, faces opposition – from multiple challengers, as four city residents also will vie for the leadership post.

Morris will be joined on the ballot by Larry Forsythe, Ed Schmidt, Cindy Smith and Cody Williams.

That race alone should get voters to the polls.

If you appreciate the job Morris has done throughout the years, give him your vote. If you think someone else needs to assume the mayorship, there are four other choices.

Also, registered voters in two of the city’s five wards will have contested races. In Ward 1, incumbent Dennis Murray is challenged by Bradley Anderson, and in Ward 5, incumbent Brian Handley is challenged by Ed Beaumont.

No one can deny that this election, unlike many in surrounding communities, on both sides of the river, doesn’t have choices.

We encourage all registered voters to take part in the political process. Cast that vote!
