Lt. John Detchon

MEDINA–Lt. John Detchon, 74, of Medina, born in Salineville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Nov. 30th 2018.

He is remembered and loved by his mother Kathryn Donaldson, brother Ben Springer (Nancy), sister Barb Myers (Dale), wife of 26 years Kim, and his children Bryony Hensel (Mason), Jaron, Alex Petrus (Jeff), Morgan, and Erin.

He is preceded in death by his step sisters Vonni Jeminez, Mary White (Ellis Lee), and his step father Ben Springer.

He dedicated his life serving the people of Northeast Ohio for 47 years as law enforcement professional. He faithfully served as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman, and the communities of Lorain and Medina Counties as a Deputy Sheriff. During his years in Medina County, he commanded every division of the Sheriff’s Department and was respected by all.

He always had a passion for knowledge and was instrumental in shaping new methods for management in law enforcement.

He taught thousands of America’s finest law enforcement officers from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine what it meant to be a leader in his 25 years as an instructor for Van Meter and Associates.

Per the orders of Lt. Detchon, there will be no funeral or viewing services.
