William M. Crooks

HAZLETON, Pa. — William M. Crooks, 72, passed away peacefully early Oct. 21, 2018.

Bill was a sports writer/editor for the Standard-Speaker for over 30 years after graduating from West Virginia University. He spent much of his life covering both local and national sports as well as coaching little league for the Hazleton Area. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Bernell Veet Crooks, as well as his son Michael JD of Providence and Corry and wife Christine of Drums, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Devan and Colin Crooks. He is also survived by his younger sister Linda Rowley and partner Emery.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Most Precious Blood Church. Those attending should go directly to the church on Friday morning. Burial will be in Most Precious Blood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, on Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
