Kelly R. Cooper Sr.

NEW CUMBERLAND, W. Va. — Kelly R. Cooper Sr., 69, of New Cumberland, W.Va. passed away at home on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, after a 16 month courageous battle with lung cancer.

Kelly was born on Oct. 4, 1949, in Philippi, W.Va. to the late Florence (Smith) and Denver Cooper.

Kelly graduated from Weir High School in 1967. He attended Abilene Christian University for 3 years before returning to the New Cumberland area. He retired in 2011 from the Shell/Quaker State Congo Plant with more than 40 years of service. Kelly enjoyed music and in his early years was a member of the band “Brother.” He also enjoyed golfing and was a regular at the morning skin games at Mountaineer’s Wood View Golf Course.

Kelly is survived by his loving wife and caretaker Carol Ann Viloski who he married on Aug. 23, 2003. Also surviving is a daughter Lacy (Ryan) Sutton and grandchildren Alyssa, Jordan and Hunter of Archie, Mo.; a son Kelly “Duff” Cooper Jr. of Chester, W.Va.; two step-sons Gene (Rachel) Tabone and grandchildren Anthony and Olivia of Mentor, Ohio; and Benjamin (Ashley) Tabone and grandchildren Alex and Eliza Violet of Beaver, Pa.; four brothers, Ed (Barbara), Denny, Tim and Jess (Phyllis); three sisters Becky, Denise (J.D.) and Martha (Louis); brother-in-law Benjamin Viloski; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Prisca.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, WV from 2-8 p.m. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester, W.Va.
