MIDLAND — Labertha Marie Giordano, 91, formerly of Midland, passed away on Aug. 16, 2018 with her beloved sons at her side.

Born Nov. 26, 1926 in Midland, she was a beloved daughter of the late Vincent and Angeline Di Placida Gentile, and was a resident of Midland until 2008, since then a resident of Economy Boro. Affectionately known as Aunt “B” she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Known throughout the area as an extraordinary baker she was known as the “nut roll lady.” Her working career spanned from Fran’s Bakery in East Liverpool, to salesclerk at the G.C. Murphy, to cashier at the Midland IGA, and finally assisting her brother in law at Andy’s Market in Midland. She was a lifelong member of St. Blaise Parish, a charter member of the St. Anthony Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Christian Mothers of Midland. In 2008 she became a member of Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge, Pa.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, John J. Giordano, her beloved sisters Nancy (Alfred) Passa, Eleanor (Tom) Ward, Dolores (John) Kane- Toncic and her beloved canine companion Rocky.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Gabriel (Kathy) Giordano, Birdsboro, Pa.; Deacon Anthony Giordano, with whom she resided, John (Denise) Giordano, Tampa Fla.; grandchildren, Nichole (Chris) Magee, Shirley Giordano, Jiselle (Chris) Wise, Elayna Giordano, and Selena Giordano. Four great- grandchildren, Alex Magee, AJ Magee, Lauren Magee, and Sophia Wise, beloved brother Vincent (Liz) Gentile, Beaver, Pa.; her loving sisters Jeannette (Tom) Gimbus, Midland, Pa. and Margaret Kovalesky, Waterford, Mich.; brother in law, Andy Toncic, Midland; sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Babe) Bryer, East Liverpool; Carmella Boyce, Wellsville; and Gloria Giordano, Alliance; numerous nieces and nephews from the Gentile and Giordano families.

Bertha’s family will receive friends at the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland, on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018 from 9-10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Blaise Catholic Church, Midland, with Fr. Michael Ruffalo as the main celebrant. Bertha will be laid to rest next to her husband John in Beaver Cemetery.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Life Beaver and Rochester Manor Floor 3, for the exceptional care of our mother.

We give thanks to Almighty God for the gift of our beautiful mother, the examples and wonderful ways of her life, and her unconditional love for her family and friends.
