John William ‘Bill’ Taylor, 92

EAST LIVERPOOL — John William Taylor passed away at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, just three days shy of his 93rd birthday. “Bill,” as he was known to all, had been in failing health recently, especially since the loss of his wife, Louise, in September, and died at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.

He was a son of the late John Ruthen Taylor and Gladys Richie Taylor, born in East Liverpool on Feb. 24, 1925.

Following high school, he served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He remained a proud American throughout his life, holding memberships in the American Legion Post 374, along with the Elks Lodge 258 and Masonic Lodge 681, where he was a 32nd Degree Master Mason.

For over 25 years, Bill was a fireman for the East Liverpool Fire Department, until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

On May 3, 1969, he married Alice Louise Taylor, who preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2017.

Three daughters and one son survive: Alicia “Lisa” Taylor and her fiance Ronald Triner of Salineville, Crystall Flint and her husband Jeff of New Middletown, Ohio, William “Buddy” Emmerling III and his wife Cindy of East Liverpool, and Terri Poynter and her husband Coleman of Lisbon.

Bill was blessed with 10 grandchildren: David Powell (Michelle), Edward Powell Jr. (Jackie), Christopher Powell (Danielle), Stacy Corll (Ben), Misti Mays (Ryan), Bobbi Jo Dean (Kerry), Jennifer Jo Clarke (Eric), Scott W. Cameron, Taylor Brickner (Jamie), and Justin Cameron (Jordan). There are also 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Rose Ciglar, and by a brother, Robert E. Taylor.

The family will receive friends at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m., and a Masonic service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pastor Norm Eckert of the Beechwood Free Methodist Church will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Bill will be laid to rest next to Louise at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
