Josephine Castanet, 92
EAST LIVERPOOL — Josephine Stella Nedzesky Castanet, 92, of East Liverpool, passed away at Calcutta Health Care Center with her family by her side on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. She was born to the late Anthony and Rose Nedzesky on March 15, 1925 in Mollenauer, Pa., now Bethel Park, Pa.
Josie spent her earlier years as a telephone operator and worked at Sears, Roebuck & Co. Josie and her husband helped run a family-owned bar and bowling alley in Bethel Park. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, camping with her family, and growing and caring for flowers. Later in life, Josie and her husband joined a square dancing club, and she became a Citizens Band Operator. Her nickname on KBTG 0656 was “Stardust.” Josie always put her children and grandchildren before herself; she helped her daughter raise her three children who will be forever grateful.
Josie is survived by her loving daughter Nancy (Tom) Sobel of New Cumberland, W.Va.; son Richard (Linda) Castanet of Richmond, Va.; and brother Bruno Nedzesky of Pittsburgh, Pa. Her loving grandchildren David, Ralph, Tina, Samantha, and Christian will miss her dearly. Also, left to cherish her memory are Josie’s five great-grandchildren Alyssa, Jacob, Lilly, Benjamin, and Blake. The family of Josie would especially like to thank nursing assistant and friend Renee Myers, who took exceptional care of Josie for the last 10 years of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alfred Castanet; and three brothers, Theodore, Anthony Jr., and Stanley Nedzesky.
As per Josie’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held to honor her life. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
