George J. Talbott

SALINEVILLE — George J. Talbott, 93, of Salineville, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 28, 1924, in Chester, W.Va., the son of the late George and Ida (Jones) Talbott. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death on Aug. 7, 2005, by his wife, June A. (Reed) Talbott, whom he married Sept. 8, 1950. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Golden.

George was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1943-46. During his time in the service, George was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart with one bronze cluster. He had been employed as a blast furnace operator for Crucible Steel Mill before retiring in 1982. He was a lifetime member of both the VFW and the Salineville American Legion. George was a big supporter of the troops serving in the military, had a very giving nature, and he was loved by so many people.

Survivors include three granddaughters: Mary Mattern, with whom he resided, Michelle Parson and her husband Bruce of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Leigh Heartline of Lisbon; and six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Blakeley of Wellsville First Christian Church officiating. The Tri-State Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Burial will be in Highlandtown Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main St. in Wellsville.
