Jane A. Younger, 83
WESTLAKE, Ohio — Jane A. Younger, 83, died on March 17, 2017, at the Arden Courts Memory Care Community in Westlake, Ohio.
Jane was born on Jan. 27, 1934, in East Liverpool, and was the only child of the late George T. and Laura (Hill) Farrall. Jane grew up in the St. Clair Avenue and Campground Road areas. She graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1951, and would be an avid member of the alumni association. Her lifelong bond with former classmates brought her much joy. Jane graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College, in Berea, Ohio, in 1955, the same year that she married her first husband, George E. Payne, a junior executive with the Ford Motor Company. As Mr. Payne’s career advanced, the young couple would relocate from their first home in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, to Birmingham, Mich., and later to Stamford, Conn., where they raised three sons. Jane actively supported her children’s endeavors through her involvement with the Riverbank Elementary School PTA, Stamford Museum, Long Ridge Swim Club Swimming Team, Pop Warner Football League, and Boy Scout Troop 21. During inclement weather, she also helped her sons with their delivery of the Stamford Advocate along Wildwood and Riverbank roads. Jane was a home decorator, carpenter, stone mason, gardener, and artist. Her favorite medium was oil paint on concrete flooring. She also had worked as a music librarian and programmer at radio stations WOHI in East Liverpool and WSTC in Stamford. Upon the end of her first marriage, in 1974, Jane wed Robert E. Younger, a lawyer with the Prudential Insurance Company and former resident of East Liverpool. The couple resided in Montclair, N.J., and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and participated in numerous community and philanthropic activities. In 1994, they moved to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to family. Jane had been a member of the Bedford Village Presbyterian Church in Bedford Village, N.Y., Central Presbyterian Church in Montclair, and the Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus. She always valued the fellowship that makes these spiritual communities so special. Jane’s old address book is filled with the names of many long-cherished friends from all of the places that she lived. Her life was truly enriched by their presence and the happy times that they shared.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Younger; stepson, Daniel P. Younger; daughter-in-law, Iraida Andujar; former husband, George E. Payne; and her beloved pets, Mugsy (cow), Buckeye (Airedale) and Charles (cat).
She is survived by her sons, Jeff Younger, Gregory (Marcia Goldberg) Payne, and Todd (Jill Croley) Payne; stepson, David Younger; stepdaughter in-law, Melissa Dabakis; and seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on April 29, 2017, at 1 p.m., at the Rockport United Methodist Church, 3301 Wooster Road in Rocky River, Ohio.
Jane has donated her body to the Cleveland Clinic and will be interred with her husband at the Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool on a date to be announced.
