Roberta E. ‘Bertie’ Staley

WELLSVILLE — Roberta E. “Bertie” Staley, 73, of Wellsville, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Valley Hospice Care Center at Trinity West in Steubenville following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 29, 1943, in East Liverpool, the daughter of Virginia (Wright) Corbett of East Liverpool and the late Robert Corbett. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death on Feb. 18, 2000, by her husband James J. “Jerry” Staley, whom she married June 9, 1961. She was also preceded in death by one brother, William “Billy” Corbett.

Bertie graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1961. She had been employed as the store manager for the former Cozad’s Hallmark Store in Calcutta. She was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Kristie Baker and her husband, Matthew, of Columbus; one son: Jay Staley and his wife, Kim, of Wellsville; two sisters: Carol Stover and her husband, Jerry, of East Liverpool, and Suzanne McKinnon of Arizona; and two brothers: Rev. Jeffrey Corbett of Columbiana and Galen Corbett and his wife, Mary, of East Liverpool. Also surviving are two grandsons: John (Trudy) Staley and Jay Michael (Bobbi Jo) Staley; two granddaughters: Kasie E. Baker and Kelly A. Baker; one great-granddaughter and two step-great-granddaughters: Maggie, Chelsei, and Khali. Bertie is also survived by her companion, Keith Ruley, and her beloved dog, Dagwood.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Cilone of the church officiating.

Burial will be in Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery in East Liverpool.

Friends may call from noon-4 p.m. on Monday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
