Elsie J. ‘Copie’ Merriman, 94
WELLSVILLE — Elsie J. “Copie” Merriman, 94, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at East Liverpool City Hospital, where she was taken after suddenly becoming ill at home.
She was born May 31, 1922, in Wellsville, a daughter of the late James S. and Maria (Henkel) Merriman.
Living her entire life in this area, except for three years when she resided in Florida, Elsie was a former employee of D.M. Ogilvie, Ohio Bell Telephone and 17 years for a local physician before retiring from Salem Community Hospital. She was a member of Triangle Seniors, Hillcrest and Yellow Creek Grange, a charter member of AARP 4359 and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a brother, Richard E. Merriman of East Liverpool, and a niece, Darlene Lawson and her husband Jay of Dry Prong, La., and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and admired.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Harold, Charles, James and Harry Merriman, and two sisters: Gladys Merriman and June D. “Peggy” Jewell.
Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Eric Edwards of the church officiating. Burial will take place in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
