William D. Nutt, 81

NORTH CANTON – William D. Nutt of North Canton, Ohio, went peacefully into His Lord’s presence on July 31, 2014. He was 81 years of age.

He is survived by his wife (and best friend) Barbara (Dray) Nutt; his three children, William H. Nutt (Susan); Brian Nutt (Alison) and Mary Beth Clark (Tom). He had four grandchildren: Laura, William, Kathryn and Jonathan.

He also leaves behind one sister, Ernestine Powers of Chester; and brothers, Clifford Nutt of McFarland, W.Va., and George Nutt of Petersburg, W.Va.

Bill was an avid sports enthusiast. He played baseball and football at Mount Union College from which he graduated in 1958. He coached football and basketball in both the Canton and North Canton city school districts. He officiated sports throughout northeast Ohio, several times umpiring the state championship in baseball. His freshmen football teams never had a losing record in 23 years. He coached the 1985 Hoover boys basketball team to the State final four. Bill was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church in Akron. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force.

Donations can be made in Bill’s memory to Oak Hill Church or to the Hoover Sideliners.

A celebration of his life was held Tuesday, Aug 5, 2014, at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, Akron.

Reed Funeral Home of Akron was in charge of the arrangements.
