Cheryl A. Johns, 75

CHESTER-Cheryl A. Johns, 75, of Chester, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014. Born on Dec. 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanor Schleiter. Cheryl was a widow, losing her husband, Ronald Johns, in 1985. Her daughter Alexis Johns, currently lives in Aurora, Ill.

Cheryl is a 1956 Chester High School graduate and West Liberty College in 1960. Her long line of careers include teacher, social worker, Waldenbooks store manager, KMart “book chick” and reporter for The Review. When she wasn’t working, her nose was buried in a book. Combining her English teacher background with being so well-read, her part-time job was often correcting everyone’s grammar.

Although Cheryl was not officially part of any groups or clubs, she was an outspoken member of the Democratic Party! If you caught her on a good day (or any day, for that matter) she may be inclined to speak her mind or offer her opinion.

She lived near Cleveland, Ohio for over 20 years. This clearly explains her unending love for the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, LeBron, Playhouse Square, and Dick Goddard.

Despite Cheryl’s health conditions the last several years, she remained at her home and was watched and cared for by numerous fantastic friends and family members. If it hadn’t been for Sharon, Helen, Sharon S., Terri, Stevie, Sorrow, Edna and so many others too numerous to count, she wouldn’t have been able to live at home.

We would like to think she is wearing her LeBron shirt, listening to Les Miserables, reading a good book, and watching that left-leaning MSNBC.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Mill Creek Cemetery in Hookstown, Pa. Cheryl was a huge animal lover, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Hancock County Animal Shelter (
