Bessie Caroline Brown
CHESTER – Bessie Caroline Brown, of Chester, passed away July 9, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Bessie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard (Dick) Brown and her brother William (Bill) Schladen.
Bessie’s children are Cathy Saltsman and her husband Floyd of Wellsville; Susan Weaver of Chester; Rich Brown and his wife Patti of Pottstown, Pa. Her grandchildren are Scott Saltsman, his wife Krista and their children Hunter, Ryder, and Presley of Wellsville; Stacey Weaver Murphy, her husband John and their children Sloane and Layne of Palm Harbor Fla.; John Brandon Weaver and children Tea (Wellsville) and John of Chester, and Jessica Brown of Pottstown, Pa. Bessie had a large and loving extended family, and was especially close to cousins Nan and Charles Angle, niece Diana Bozica and nephew William Sladie Schladen.
Bessie was born March 20, 1926, in East Liverpool, and graduated from East Liverpool High School In 1943. She worked briefly as a welder in the shipyards during WWII and as a ware dresser at Homer Laughlin China Co.
She married Dick Brown on Feb. 15, 1947. Bessie lived a quiet, rich life as a homemaker, wife and mother. She and her husband enjoyed car trips and visited every state in the continental U.S. Together they built a home in Grandview, near many of their relatives, and it was here that they lived out their lives and raised their children.
She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. She was a member of the Trinity Parish Presbyterian Church of Chester.
Bessie moved to the Peachtree Inn, Foxcrest in 2011, and recently resided at the Stone Pear Pavilion. She had many friends among the residents and among the staff at Foxcrest. The family would like to thank the staff of Foxcrest and the employees of the Weirton Medical Center for their exceptional care.
Friends may visit with the family today, Friday, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Rev. Matthew Camlin will conduct services at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
