Robert Van Ducen Roach, 83
ORLANDO, Fla. – Robert Van Ducen Roach, U.S. Army M/Sgt. E8, retired, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, in Orlando, Fla. He was 83. Born Nov. 4, 1930, in East Liverpool, he served 25 years, some of that time in the Vietnam war as a medic and a Licensed Practical Nurse, receiving many medals and also worked 19 years with the VA Clinic in Orlando, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hazel Roach Silverthorn, stepfather C.A. Silverthorn, and brother Richard Roach.
He leaves sisters, Eileen Purinton, Hazel Flara, Verna (Don) Thorne and Shirley Gibbs; one sister-in-law, Ava Roach; and two stepsisters, Viola Densmore and Donna Renner; plus many nieces and nephews. Also survived by wife, Rose; three children, Robert (Marsha) Roach, Theresa L. Vera Roach, and Shawn Roach; grandsons, Cory Roach, who serves in the U.S. Navy Intelligence U.S. Prevention Task Force, and Aaron Roach. He leaves his best friend, Mercy Mestre, and her children, Sam, Jorge, Mercy (Leo) and Tanya; and grandchildren, Drandia, Jose, Christian, Laurence and Ryan; plus his three dogs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at LaCroft Church of the Nazarene, 7th Avenue, by Pastor Carolyn Hardy.
The Newcomer Funeral Home, Orlando, Fla., was in charge of the arrangements.
