Malcolm “Mike” Lanham Sr., 66
EAST LIVERPOOL – Malcolm A. (Mike) Lanham Sr. passed away at home with his wife by his side, on June 10, 2014, after a long illness.
Mike was 66 years of age, born Jan. 1, 1948, in Chelyan, Kanawha Co., W.Va. He was the first of eight children to the late Orvil I. and Rita J. (Shorty Arthur) Lanham.
He was preceded in death by stepson, Galen Lee Newhouse Jr.; a sister, Mary K. Lanham; two brothers, Clarence (Nick) and David (Bo) Lanham; sister-in-law, Debra Lanham; fathers-in-law, Sherman Rohr Jr. and Terry Stuchell; and mother-in-law, Elsie (Parrish-Rohr) Stuchell.
Mike served in the US Navy from Jan. 25, 1965, to Nov. 30, 1984, serving aboard many ships and shore duty stations. First was USS Princeton LPH 5 and retired from USS America CV 66. In 1977 was a member of the first crew and “plank owner” aboard USS Saipan LHA2. He served three tours in Viet Nam, two on ships and one tour in country.
A member of the USS Princeton Veterans Assoc., member at large of the Fleet Reserve Assoc., Viet Nam Veterans Memorial and US Navy Memorial. Also Glenmore American Legion Post 736, DAV Post all of East Liverpool. A life member of the USS America Veterans Assoc. Mike also worked with the Cub Scout and Boy Scouts in Virginia and West Virginia while working with the Troop 437 in Spencer, W.Va. Mike got a new flag for the troop which had been flown on the USS America.
Mike leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Vicki L. (Rohr-Newhouse) Lanham. Also surviving are sons, Malcolm A. (Emily) Lanham Jr. of Pleasantville, Ohio, and Howard D. (Amy) Lanham of Weston, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren, Treasure, Mackenzie, Abigail and Samuel Lanham of Weston, W.Va., Zachary and Jaycie Lanham of Pleasantville, Ohio and Jessica Campbell of Texas.
Also surviving are a brother Charles J. (CJ) Lanham of Alloy, W.Va.; three sisters, Orvillene (Joe) Hoyt of Neosho, Mo., Linda K. Sperandeo of New Orleans, La., and Goldie S. (Henry) Morgan of Lewisburg, W.Va.; sister- and brothers-in-law, Glenda (Gary) Fitch, Michael (Liza) Stuchell, all of East Liverpool, and Robert Rohr of St. Petersburg, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Pastor Howard Parish will conduct a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
