Wayne L. “Pappy” Russell, 76

WELLSVILLE – Wayne L. “Pappy” Russell, 76, of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Wellsville, the son of the late Robert and Clara (Stanley) Russell.

Wayne graduated from Wellsville High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was employed for twenty-six years as a lockman for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers before retiring in 2000. He was a member of Wellsville First Christian Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 70, Fraternal Order of Eagles 772, and VFW Post 5647.

Survivors include one grandson: Brandon Russell and his wife, Lindsey, of Wellsville; one granddaughter: Allison Marshall of Lisbon; one daughter: Crystal Touchstone of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters: Georgia Allison and Mary Campbell, both of Wellsville; and three brothers: Dennis Russell and Larry Russell, both of Wellsville, and Donny Russell of Bremerington, Wash.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Marie Russell, and his brother, Stanley Russell.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the church officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Burial Group.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, where Wayne will be buried with his daughter, Paige Marie.

Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. & 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.
