Margaret E. “Nell” Lyons, 88

NEGLEY – Margaret E. “Nell” Lyons, age 88, of Negley, passed away at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver, Pa., on Friday, May 2, 2014, after a two-week illness.

The daughter of the late Wilbur and Jennie (Huston) Toland, she was born in St. Clair Township on April 23, 1926, and lived her entire life in this area. Mrs. Lyons was a graduate of East Liverpool High School and attended Beauty School in Youngstown. She had worked as a beautician at Margaret’s Beauty Shop in East Liverpool, retiring in 1991.

A lifetime member of the Fredericktown Christian Church where she was former secretary, treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent, Mrs. Lyons enjoyed bowling on the church league and the Perennial Bowling League. She was a member of the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park and enjoyed being around her four legged friends. Nell always made everyone she came in contact with feel special.

She is survived at home by her husband, Jay R. Lyons, who she married on Aug. 5, 1978.

Other survivors include, three nieces: Sue Dattilio of Calcutta, Kay Berresford of Negley and Debbie Smith (B.J.) of Youngstown. Three great nieces and nephews: Rachel (David) Adair, Jaime (Chris) Jones, Jenna (Tommy) Watson, Jonathan and Seth Berresford. Seven great-great nieces and nephews: Andrew, James, and Gabriella Adair, Madison Berresford, Gwen and Aidan Jones, and Ariya Watson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Craig: and two cousins, Fred Parker and John B. Martin, with whom she was raised; and a brother-in-law, John Craig.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. with Minister Robert Helbeck of the East Palestine First Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Calcutta U.P. Cemetery.

Friends may at the Calcutta Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
