Dorothy M. Hays Parsons, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL – Dorothy M. Hays Parsons, formerly of Pope Avenue in East Liverpool, slipped quietly into Heaven at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family who has cared for her throughout her lengthy illness. Dorothy, 85, had been a resident of Stone Pear Pavilion in Chester until the time of her death.

She was born in Salem on April 22, 1929, a daughter of the late Samuel Hays and Frances Estell Hays Lamp. Her husband Thomas Howard Parsons, whom she married on Dec. 17, 1950, preceded her on Nov. 16, 2009.

A longtime member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, she was a quiet worker who diligently helped on various committees at the church and supported everyone she knew with her kind words and thoughtful notes of encouragement.

A 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School, she had been a secretary at Patterson Foundry Machine Company at one time and had also been an instructor at Ohio Valley Business College many years ago.

Her faith and her family were of utmost importance to her. Surviving is her daughter, Vicki Coalmer and her husband, Tim, of Calcutta; and two beloved grandchildren: Chad Coalmer and his wife, Melissa, of McDonald, Pa., and Cara Coalmer Lomas and her husband, Mat, of Seabrook Island, S.C. Dorothy also took great delight in her great-granddaughter, Scarlett Marie Coalmer, and her many friends whom she cherished as much as they did her.

Dorothy also leaves behind two sisters, Betty Montgomery and her husband Howard, of Kilmarnock, Va., and Mary Karlson and her husband, Richard, of Lake Placid, Fla. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Ray Hays and Samuel Robert Hays.

Pastor Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks will conduct funeral services at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will be present from 5-8 p.m., as well as an hour before the service on Friday at the church.
