Alwyn “Otto” Charles Purinton, 89

EAST LIVERPOOL-Alwyn “Otto” Charles Purinton Jr., 89, passed away on Feb. 2, 2014, at St. Andrew’s Village in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He was born on Feb. 15, 1924, to the late Alwyn Charles Purinton Sr. and Louise Scott in East Liverpool, Ohio.

Otto was raised in East Liverpool and graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1940. From there he attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and he served two years in the South Pacific on the US Navy Destroyer USS Patterson in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

Otto spent his working career in the “family business,” and was the president of Potters Savings & Loan from 1967-89.

In addition to being a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, East Liverpool, and St. Columba Episcopal Church, Boothbay Harbor, Otto was a member of the Rotary International.

Otto was predeceased by his loving wife whom he married in 1946, Marguerite “Peg” (Stewart) Purinton, and two sisters, Virginia Smith and Theodosia Mahan.

He is survived by three sons: Gregg Stewart Purinton and his wife Tammy of Pittsburgh, Alwyn Charles “Scott” Purinton III and his wife Della Graham of New Orleans, and Arthur Terhune “Terry” Purinton and his wife Marion Lipschutz of Purchase, N.Y. There are three grandchildren: Anna G. Purinton and her husband David Hauver of Washington D.C., and Benjamin Purinton and Sara Purinton, both of Purchase, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Riverview Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 with Rev. Mary Vidmar. The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
