Norine M. Quinlan Dickey, 93

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Former East Liverpool resident Norine M. Quinlan Dickey passed away in her sleep early Monday morning, Feb. 24, 2014, at St. Ann Center in Rockford, Ill. She was 93. Norine had moved to the Rockport, Ill., area two years ago to be nearer to her son and daughter-in-law.

Born on her family’s farm just outside Wellsville on July 30, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Reginald A. and Amelia Kotzur Quinlan.

She was a 1938 graduate of Toronto High School, and had been a familiar face at the downtown East Liverpool YMCA, where she had worked the front desk for many years. Later in her life, she returned to Kent State University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1973. At that time, she became a first grade teacher at Calcutta School, a position she held until 1982, when she moved to Glendale, Ariz. A member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church before leaving the area, she had been a den mother for 12 years for Pack 43 in East Liverpool.

While in Arizona, Norine continued as a substitute teacher, and later retired to the Thunderbird Retirement Resort, where she enjoyed her friendships with the residents there.

She was preceded in death on June 22, 1990, by her husband, Alvin M. Dickey. They were married on July 10, 1953.

Norine is survived by her son, John A. Dickey and his wife, Linda, of Caledonia, Ill., along with two grandchildren: Bobbi Jo Humphreys and her husband, Joe, and Neil Miller and his fiance, Neli. There are six great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kris, Erika, Wyatt, Garrett and Kaytlin, along with several special nieces and nephews.

Norine was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Bernard Quinlan and Paul Quinlan; and by a son and two daughters who died in infancy.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday where the family will be present from 5-8 p.m.

Father Peter Haladej of the church will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Parish. Norine will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following the burial, family and friends will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
