WELLSVILLE – James E. “Red” Mellott, of Y&O Road, Wellsville, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014. He was 89.
Born in Bannock, Ohio, Dec. 19, 1924, he was a son of the late David and Elizabeth Sprowl Mellott. A farmer in the Wellsburg, West Virginia area for many years, he was Christian by faith. A veteran of WWII, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estella B. Cline “Stella” Mellott.
He is survived by three daughters, Maxine Mellott of Maryland, Donna Litman of Wellsville, and Margie Weyand, of East Liverpool. Three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition, there are three sisters, Peg Huntsman of Barnesville, Ruth Evans of Pennsylvania, and Agnes Pinkerton, of Elkton, along with two brothers, Charles “Skip” Mellott, of Barnesville, and George Mellott of Elkton.
Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
Burial will be at Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery.
